All Colours of Montenegro - Dyeing Wool with Vegetable Dyes - Jelena Đukanović, Faculty of Design and Multimedia, Department of Fashion Design UDG

The workshops introduce the participants to  sheep’s wool, the primary material in the past of Montenegro, and the method of dyeing wool with vegetable dyes from the environment. We use dyed domestic wool to introduce the technique of needle felting and making small objects of applied art.

Jelena Đukanović, as an author and founder of an international art project “All colours of Montenegro- Dyeing Wool with Vegetable Dyes” that has been going on for seven years and brings together ethnologists, botanists, textile technologists, professors and students of art faculties and academies from nine countries with the aim of preserving intangible textile heritage with wool in focus. Dyeing wool with vegetable dyes is a forgotten technique that we are bringing back to modern creativity. Jelena Đukanović also teaches the subject of Textiles at the Faculty of Design and Multimedia, Department of Fashion Design UDG.
