Preparing digital heritage for Europeana” Robert Davies, The Heritage Management Organisation

The workshop will introduce the purpose of the Europeana service and its role in safeguarding heritage through access to digitised content created or held by museums. It will demonstrate how cultural material (data) makes its way into Europeana.eu, what is done with it, and how it is used by others. It  will cover the tools, supporting resources  and frameworks available to create high quality data consistently to enable its aggregation, including the:

  •  Europeana Licensing Framework
  •  Europeana Publishing Framework
  •  Europeana Data Model (EDM)

Perspectives will be offered on current innovations around data enrichment, IIIF, Linked Open Data, Artificial Intelligence, 3D and multilinguality.

Robert Davies

Chair of the Europeana Network Association (ENA)

Robert Davies currently serves as the Chair of the Europeana Network Association (ENA) and works on the SHIFT project on behalf of the Heritage Management Organisation (Greece). He has been involved with the Europeana initiative since its outset in 2007, managing several EU projects and actions which have resulted in the contribution of over 20 million digital cultural heritage items from all over Europe and from various domains. With almost 30 years of experience, Davies has worked with cultural organisations in the Balkans region in a variety of contexts.
