The Balkan Museum Network (BMN) is pleased to announce the third edition of the Museum Souvenir Award, recognizing outstanding museum souvenirs that creatively interpret museum collections, heritage, and cultural identity. The first edition of the award was held in 2017, followed by the second in 2019.
A museum souvenir is more than just a keepsake—it serves as a bridge between visitors and the stories museums tell. This award highlights innovative and high-quality souvenirs that not only reflect museum collections but also showcase creative, artistic, and technological approaches to heritage interpretation, whether through traditional craftsmanship or modern design.
Eligibility
The award is open exclusively to institutional members of the Balkan Museum Network, provided they joined before 30 April 2025. Eligible museums must:
- Design and produce original museum souvenirs inspired by their collections
- Utilize artistic, craft-based, technological, or experimental approaches in their souvenir design
- Engage local craftspeople, designers, artists, or creative professionals in the development process
- Ensure the nominated item is a souvenir, not a direct replica or copy
Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on the following:
- Creativity and Innovation – How does the souvenir reinterpret museum content in a fresh, engaging, or unexpected way?
- Connection to the Museum Collection – How well does the souvenir reflect the museum’s identity, heritage, or collection?
- Craftsmanship and/or Technology – Does the souvenir showcase skilled craftsmanship, innovative materials, or digital solutions (e.g., 3D printing, augmented reality, interactive elements)?
- Quality and Marketability – Is the souvenir well-made, visually appealing, and suitable for sale in museum shops?
The Museum Souvenir Award 2025 recipient will be promoted on the BMN website and among partners and funders.
Application Process
To submit a nomination, complete the application form and submit it by 30 April 2025.
UPDATE: The deadline has been postponed until 31 July 2025.
Applications must include:
- Three high-quality photos showcasing different angles and views of the nominated souvenir
- A brief description detailing the souvenir’s concept, connection to the museum, and production process
