Call for Museums to Share Digital Collections on Europeana

As a follow-up to the recent webinar “Advantages of Sharing Your Collection Online,” held on 18 June 2025 within the SHIFT initiative, the Balkan Museum Network is inviting its members to take part in a new opportunity to publish digital heritage on Europeana—the European Union’s central platform for digital cultural heritage.

The session, led by digital heritage expert Maria Teresa Natale, highlighted the many benefits of joining Europeana. Publishing collections on the platform improves online visibility, enhances metadata quality, supports rights management, and enables the reuse of content in education, research, and the creative industries. Beyond visibility, Europeana provides a structured, policy-aligned infrastructure for long-term access and digitization sustainability.

Now, your museum can receive individual support from Maria Teresa Natale to start or advance this process. Whether you have a small digital collection of just 20 items or are already working on digitization, this is a chance to receive tailored guidance through every step: metadata mapping, validation, ingestion, licensing, and alignment with the Europeana Data Model (EDM).

There is no fixed deadline—the timeline will be adjusted to the scope and readiness of your digital content.

This is a unique opportunity for museums in the region to become part of Europe’s shared digital heritage. Let your stories and collections travel beyond borders—join Europeana and help shape a more visible, connected, and accessible cultural future.
