Iva Validzija & Jasenka Butić, French connections – Workshop parallel session 2

Workshop parallel session 2

Iva Validžija & Jasenka Butić, French connections

This workshop explores how museum objects can enhance learning French language and culture. The initiative began in 2017 when a French professor from Alliance Française and a curator from the Museum Documentation Centre identified museum collections linked to French history. Partnering with local museums within a 30 km radius of Zagreb, we designed a program allowing students to engage with French heritage through sustainable travel—walking, cycling, or train.

Museums such as Kuća Šenoa, the Museum of the City of Sisak, and the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb hosted sessions where students discovered historical figures and artifacts tied to French culture. The project fosters inter-institutional collaboration, gaining media interest and strengthening cultural exchange. It also benefits museums by expanding their audience to Francophones and Francophiles of all ages, encouraging innovative approaches to teaching language, culture, and heritage.
