Make your museum a better place

The Balkan Museum Network invites its institutional members to apply for a new access survey project which aims to detect museums barriers to Deaf and disabled people, and make recommendations for improvement.

The Access Survey will be done in consultation with the museum’s staff within a couple of days (depending on the size of the museum) between early September-late November in the several Balkan museums.

The basic daily rate for the access survey conducted by BMAG members is 60 EUR per day of the site visit. For the pilot phase 50% discount is offered.

If you would like YOUR museum to host two consultants, members of the Balkan Museum Access Group (BMAG) and undergo a survey based on the social model of disability, apply for this call!

In the Application Procedure all museums interested to be part of the pilot phase should:

1. Write a statement between 500-700 words explaining how you will use the information that you will receive as the result of the access survey and how you will make this process part of your strategic planning. The statement is integrated into the online application form available at https://goo.gl/forms/uskTf3SpRt665ab13
2. Submit a letter of support from the museum Directors that states the willingness to be the part of the access survey and enable BMAG members to carry out the accessibility survey

The pilot phase is open only to BMN members while in the second phase the call would be open for other museums as well (but BMN members will be entitled to 10% discount). If your institution is selected, we will be able to tell you how many days the site visit will need to be.

Application Criteria

Museum should:

  • Be a member of the BMN,
  • Be willing to pay 30 EUR per day of the site visit of both BMAG consultants,
  • Sign a contract with the Balkan Museum Network outlining the tasks and time-frame of the accessibility survey.

Selection procedure

In the pilot phase, we are able to select only a few museums.
Deadline for applications is 11 August 2017, midnight CET.
